Dorothy Award
“Like Dorothy, we make sure everyone belongs.”
Core Values: Belonging, kindness, inclusion and integrity
Why Dorothy? Dorothy just wanted to belong and find her place. She showed kindness to everyone she met and never left anyone behind.
What this looks like at our school:
- Welcoming others into games and groups
- Being kind with words and actions
- Including others and helping new children feel safe
- Standing up for others

Lion Award
“Like the Lion, we are brave and we don’t give up.”
Core Values: Courage, resilience, empathy
Why the Lion? The Lion learned that being brave doesn’t mean not feeling scared -it means trying anyway and caring about others.
What this looks like in school:
- Trying even when learning is hard
- Not giving up when things go wrong
- Talking about our feelings
- Showing empathy and understanding
“Together we can be brave and keep going.”
Tin Man Award
“Like the Tin Man, we use kind hearts and gentle hands.”
Core Value: Kindness, respect, friendship
Why the Tin Man? The Tin Man thought he had no heart, but he showed the most kindness of all.
What this looks like in school:
- Saying please and thank you
- Using kind words
- Helping others
- Respecting adults, children and our school

Scarecrow Award
“Like the Scarecrow, we try our best and love learning.”
Core Value: Learning, curiosity, problem-solving
Why the Scarecrow? The Scarecrow believed he wasn’t clever, but he showed great thinking and creativity.
What this looks like in school:
- Having a go at work
- Asking questions
- Thinking of solutions
- Learning from mistakes
“Together we can learn and grow.”
Toto Award
“Like Toto, we stick together and look after each other.”
Core Value: Loyalty, teamwork, responsibility and integrity
Why Toto? Toto stayed by Dorothy’s side and helped the group stay together.
What this looks like in school:
- Being a good friend
- Working as a team
- Telling an adult if someone is hurt or unhappy
- Looking after our classroom and school

Wizard Award
“Like the Wizard, we use technology to explore, create and solve problems.”
Core Values: Creativity, problem-solving, responsibility, digital confidence
Why the Wizard? The Wizard showed that ideas, imagination and clever thinking can make amazing things happen.
What this looks like in school:
- Using technology to create (coding, design, videos, writing, projects)
- Using devices safely and responsibly
- Helping others with technology and sharing knowledge

How They All Link to “Together We Can”
Every character shows us that we are stronger when we work together:
- Dorothy shows us we all belong and show integrity
- The Lion teaches us to be brave
- The Tin Man shows kindness
- The Scarecrow shows us how to think and learn
- Toto shows loyalty and teamwork
- The Wizard inspires us to create, innovate and use technology wisely
Just like Dorothy and her friends, we are all different - but together we can achieve amazing things.
We are brave like the Lion, kind like the Tin Man, clever like the Scarecrow, loyal like Toto, welcoming like Dorothy, and creative like the Wizard.
